A violin by Joseph & Antonio Gagliano, Naples, C1790

Extremely fine example of the brother Joseph & Antonio Gagliano, made circa 1790 this violin comes with a recent Biddulph certificate.

Giuseppe was the son of Nicolo Gagliano and his work can reach these heights but during the later parts of his career he joined his brother Antonio in a collaboration. It can be hard to sometimes work out who did what! But Joseph was a very skilled maker and his brother’s never hit his level!….basically as the Gagliano family got older the making quality fell. These two however knew what they were doing!
