A violin by Carlo Giuseppe Oddone, Turin 1927
Price range: £50,000+
Carlo Giuseppe Oddone (1866-1936) was one of the great makers of Turin during the first half of the 20th century. While he did work in London for 4 or so years, his work is unmistakably “Turin”- no antiquing, black shamfers on the scroll and that gorgeous golden yellow varnish. It’s very easy to see a line from Rocca-Pressenda-Marchetti-Oddone-Fagnola…these makers all stuck to their native violin making style that is Turin!
This beautiful example from 1927 has his internal stamp inside and on the bottom lower bout (around the endpin). Interesting to note, Oddone didn’t use pins in his backs…and this one piece back is truly beautiful.
Stradivari in model, excellent condition…and sound, well, it’s big!
We are lucky to have quite a few Turin makers in the shop now, 2x Fagnola, 2 x Marchetti and this fine Oddone.

I just love Turin makers...finesse and power combined.
