A viola by Luigi Bajoni, Milan 1854, 41cm
Price range: £50,000+
Luigi Bajoni (1815-1892)
Bajoni is an extremely rare maker. With the quality of this work it is surprising that so few instruments made by him exist. We know of one fine cello that carries this level of workmanship but many instruments attributed to him are clearly wrong.
This viola seems to have had quite a few illustrious owners (as found on the Tarisio, Cozio website) as well as at least 3 members of the same London orchestra spanning 40 + years of ownership.
In near mint condition this Milanese masterpiece is a joy to play. Huge open sounding, Big C string and all at 41cm!
Soon to be featured in a book on great Milanese makers by Jason Price (Tarisio, Director)
