A viola by Alessandro Tossani, Cremona 2024

Alessandro Tossani has been a friend of the shop for over 10 years and in fact my assistant, Martin , used to do some work in Cremona for him!

Tossani is violin making “old school”…entering the violin making school while still aged 13!, after further studies he then worked for Bruce Carlson , the Cremonese Expert, for 10 years, mainly doing restoration on high end violins.  In 1991 he opened his own workshop in the city.

Tossani was also a founding member and president of the “Consortium Antonio Stradivari Cremona”.

He only makes a few instruments a year and we are lucky to have one. This viola, based on the Giacomo Gennaro model is just so beautiful. The workmanship is just faultless and just look at the colour! ….Quite clearly , I love this viola. I hope you will too……….
