A violin bow by Louis Gillet
Born 1891 Nancy, died 1970 Saint-Rémy France
Gillet was apprenticed in Mirecourt and subsequently employed by Thibouville-Lamy 1906-1911. Military service during the First World War, after which he joined Laberte in Mirecourt. Established independently in modest circumstances in Châlon-sur-Saône from c.1926. Worked for E. Sartory 1934-1946, adopting his style effectively. After Sartory’s death in 1946 continued working for his son-in-law G. Dupuy. From c.1951 to 1960 he was again independent, and some of his best and most richly mounted bows come from this period.
Really fine example, unstamped, 59.2grams with light silk style lapping. This bow will be featured in the new book on bows by Pierre Guillaume.
Certificate from Guillaume and cabinet Raffin.

I have always loved a Gillet...this one is no exception! Like a Sartory...but half the price.
