A violin bow by C.C. Husson, Paris 1880, Cherpitel stamp
Charles Claude Husson (1846-1915) was a respected French bow maker from Mirecourt, a town long associated with fine violin and bow craftsmanship. He worked during the mid-nineteenth century, a formative period in the development of the modern French bow. Although less widely known today than some of his Parisian contemporaries, Husson produced work of strong character and solid technique.
His bows are generally influenced by the Peccatte school, showing firm, well-proportioned heads and a robust, rounded stick. The craftsmanship is straightforward and functional, with carefully shaped frogs and clean, workmanlike finishing. Husson selected good-quality pernambuco, and his bows are often noted for their strength and stability in playing.
Sean Bishop ” Really nice 19th century bow. Quite a rare maker…this one plays very well.
