A violin bow by Martin Devillers, gold mounted, 61.7g ex Bishop Collection

Martin Devillers (b1956 -) trained in the legendary class of bernard Ouchard in Mirecourt from 1973-1976. After a few years he worked in the USA returning to France to work with Thomachot (1984-86). He then set up his own atelier and in 1991 won gold medals for violin and viola in the great Paris competition.

For such a great maker his work is very rare, he told me in 2005 that for the last 15 years he had sold all his bows in Asia. From about 2018 I bought every bow off him I could…approx 20+

Sadly he has suffered from ill health and retired from making in 2025.
