A violin by Pierre Silvestre, 1846

Pierre Silvestre, b1801 d 1859. Silvestre was apprenticed in Mirecourt before working for Lupot and Gand  in Paris. He then established his work in Lyon from 1829 working with his brother Hippolyte Silvestre Frères 1831-1848 and then alone for the final 10 years of his working life. His work is extremely fine and usually based on Stradivari and Guarneri models, in the style of JB Vuillaume. This example was made in 1846, in near mint  condition, very beautiful one piece back.

“I love Pierre Silvestre violins, they always sound great and this is no exception…like a Vuillaume @ 1/3rd of the price!”  Sean Bishop -Director
