A violin by Matthew Hardie, Scotland c.1800

Matthew Hardie is often referred to as the “Scottish Stradivari”. From an early stage of his career he was making sophisticated copies of Stradivari models, especially the “long pattern”. His work is generally fine and he was a great influence for the Scottish school of making at that time.

“An interesting violin from one of the best British makers, very fine sounding and previously owned by a professional violinist in Scotland.” Sean Bishop- Director
