A violin by GB Guadagnini with a table by Giovanni Rota, Turin c.1770

G.B. Guadagnini is regarded as one of the most fine Italian makers of the 18th century, and regarded as perhaps the last great maker of the classical period to arrive at his own distinctive style and form without slavishly copying past makers.

Giovanni Rota was a student of Lorenzo Storioni and is regarded as one of the last great Cremonese makers. His work is of fine quality, often based on full arched Stradivari and Amati- like models.
