A viola by Joseph Panormo (and Vincenzo), London, 1810-15

Joseph Panormo, Naples 1767? d1837 London. Joseph was second son, pupil and assistant to the great Vincenzo Panormo. Life as a maker was hard for Panormo and although his instruments are extremely fine he died in poverty. He also is famous for his Guitar making!

This viola was probably made in collaboration with his father around 1810-15 (says Charles Beare), was a copy of a cut down Amati Tenor. 41cm, 16 1/8th “.
