A cello by Charles Boullangier, London 1882
Price range: £50,000+
Charles Boullangier 1823-1888 London
Boullangier worked in Paris for 3 years with JB Vuillaume then with the firm Gand & Bernardel. In 1849 he moved to London and worked for Edward Withers. His instruments show extremely fine levels of workmanship but with a British twist! Probably influenced by Lott whom also worked for Withers.
This cello is a fine and near mint example made in 1882, London.
“I love Boullangier as a maker and have been lucky to have sold many examples of his fine violins and violas. This is the first cello of his we have had…and its a beauty!” Sean Bishop- Director
