Arthur Edward Smith (1880-1978) can rightly be regarded as the most important Australian violin maker of the 20th Century.

He is a maker I am slightly obsessed with, being an Aussie myself!, and I have actually owned a good number of his instruments through out my playing life and violin dealing career.

This viola was made in 1951, with Smith aged 71! and a bit like Stradivari….was at his peak at this age! This is his instrument number 135 or 136…he made 2 violas this year.

Totally mint, this is a wow viola.
