A rare Tourte copy viola bow by E.A. Ouchard
Émile Auguste Ouchard (1900-1969) is one of the finest bow makers of the 20th century. Part of the renowned Ouchard bow making family, Émile started working under his father Émile Francoisat Eugène Cuniot-Hury’s shop in Mirecourt, France around 1913.
Following years of collaboration with his father, Emile A Ouchard left Mirecourt in the late 1930s to set up his own shop in Paris, also working in New York and Chicago before returning to France.
This is an extremely rare example. As a copy of FX Tourte this bow was made circa 1940 & 68 grams I have known this bow since the 1990’s when it ended up being purchased by a violist from the Philharmonia Orchestra (London). We are extremely lucky to have this bow for sale!
