Marie Chastagnol

After studying cabinet making, Marie Chastagnol attended the National School of violin making in Mirecourt, France, from 2004 to 2007. While studying there, she completed two professional placements with Jean-Frédéric Schmitt in Lyon and at l’Atelier d’Arthur in Paris with Arthur Dubroca Alexandre Aumont. There she took her first steps in bow-making. After graduating from Mirecourt and a short time in Yann Ullern’s workshop in Paris she worked for four years (2008-2012) in the workshop of Juliette Desmarchelier and Yannick Le Canu in Lille. After that, she spent a year as a bow-maker in Olivier Perot’s Montreal workshop (Quebec). In 2013 she was given the opportunity to come back to France in order to work with Georges Tépho in Quimper, France. Then in 2017 as George Tépho moved his operation to Paris she opened her own workshop in Quimper. The two still regularly collaborate on projects and Marie also works with other bow-makers such as Eric Fournier and Emmanuel Bégin in order to refine her technique. As well as her bow-making work she is also responsible for the upkeep and repairs of bows for Atelier St Marc in Quimper.
