A viola by Charles John Wilkinson, London, c1930, 42cm
Price range: £25,000 - £50,000
Charles John Wilkinson in the earlier part of his life trained as a violinist and also fought in World War I. He trained as a maker with Thomas Jacques Holder, later going on to work for G. Withers and J&A Beare. Wilkinson also supplied copies of classical instruments from Cremona, Turin and Milan, many of these imitations are regarded as fine and often convincing.
This is Wilkinson’s Testore model viola. Easy to play and sounds great.
